Cross-Media Advertising

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Effectively, our products are examples of cross-media advertising. Large conglomerates use this in order to increase profitability. However this is on a much larger scale and may also include merchandising and using viral markets as well as ancillary marketing. Horizontal intergration used by conglomerates such as Time Warner use this colaboration of media products to maximise impact by saturating the market on a global scale.

I feel we have achieved a continuous theme throughout our ancillary products and teaser trailer which maintains its genre appeal. The magazine cover is functional, as well as presenting a film, positively and ambiguously. The poster achieves the same effect as the trailer, I edited the photo to achieve a similar low-key lighting effect and emphasize colour; with a static image, it allowed me to incorporate and emphasize this dramatic image in order to create a longer lasting effect which would stay in the audience's mind and as a result, watch the film.

In terms of profitability, I think this would be successful. Its conformity in terms of structure follows the same cross-media advertising methods I've seen in my research. I don't feel any of our products have given too much away; they highlight the key themes and our chosen genre of which the audience would base their decision to watch the film; I feel our target audience has been reached through visual imagery after considering our primary research.
